Invitation to attend

On behalf of the organising committee, I am delighted to invite you to participate in the RoadSafe 2009 Conference which will take place at the new Rydges Bell City Event Centre from Thursday 8 – Friday 9 October.

The 2 day biennial conference is expected to attract over 200 attendees, with the program featuring keynote speakers, presentations from local specialists, a conference dinner and an associated expo.

We look forward to seeing you at the RoadSafe 2009 Conference in October.

Phillip McDonald
RoadSafe Westgate & RoadSafe 09 Conference Chair

Conference Themes

The conference will focus on the following themes;

Linking the Communities: Local communities are now more involved in policy decision-making and implementation. To what extent do communities themselves believe their needs are met? How can we better link diverse communities of interest to achieve broader road safety goals?

Falling through the Gaps: The mobility and access needs of people less able to speak for themselves are easily forgotten when policy and regulation are formulated. Amongst these people are the elderly, youth, culturally and linguistically diverse {CALD} sub-communities, the economically disadvantaged, the disabled and those with health issues.

Technology: Friend or Foe Some technological developments have brought advantages but, like the mobile phone and data screens, may represent a road safety risk. Some advantages may be more apparent than real; other technologies have long lead times. What are the relative advantages of face-to-face enforcement vs. automated enforcement?

Getting the balance right! Cars have been such an integral part of life that, until recently, they have dictated mobility options and infrastructure. How can we better balance the competing demands for limited infrastructure between public and private; between climate change concerns and mobility; between unprotected road users and commuters
