Call for Papers/Presenters and Workshop convenors

The Queensland Coastal Conference 2009 will mark the second State coastal conference to be held in Queensland and will provide an ideal opportunity for coastal planners and managers, social planners, community groups, engineers, scholars, the tourism and recreation industry and the development industry to share ideas and workshop solutions to assist in maintaining the values of Queensland's coastal landscapes. The theme "Waves of Change" aims to reflect the need for the immediacy of coastal issues to be recognised and addressed in a new way to avoid past mistakes and work towards a sustainable future.

The Queensland Coastal Conference will assist coastal planners and managers, and other decision makers to enhance and maintain momentum for coastal sustainability in Queensland.

Specific Technical Themes Include:
  • Planning, Policy and Politics
  • Relationships - People and Communities
  • Coast and Marine Assets
  • In Action not Inaction
Please note the Call for Papers has now closed and speakers have been notified of the status of their abstracts. If successful, speakers are required to submit a full paper of their presentation by Wednesday 21 January 2009.

Paper Submission Requirements
The selection of papers will be made by a technical committee based on their importance and interest to a wide range of delegates. Full papers must be submitted by Wednesday 21 January 2009.

The submission should be formatted to:
  • A4 Size
  • 11pt Arial font
  • Single Spaced
  • Microsoft Word 98 or later
Proposals accepted for presentation will be published in both hard copy and in electronic format, exactly as submitted, and should thus be checked for accuracy prior to submission.

The submission should be accompanied by, a brief biography to a maximum of six (6) lines per author, plus complete author contact details.

Presentations
If your paper is selected, oral presentations are not required in a given format. However use of MS PowerPoint is encouraged. Abstracts of all presentations accepted for inclusion in the Conference Program will be published as part of the conference program booklet to be issued at the commencement of the conference and Full Papers will be published on the Conference Proceedings CD-Rom.

Please Note: The invitation to submit an abstract or present a paper does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Conference. No speakers' fee is paid to successful applicants. Presenters of accepted abstracts are required to register for the Conference. Presenters who are only attending on the day of their presentation, will receive a discounted day registration rate.

Workshop Concepts
Another important element of the Queensland Coastal Conference 2009, to compliment the presentations, is the workshop series.

If your workshop concept is selected by the technical committee you will be contacted to discuss the logistics of conducting the workshop. After this time you will be required to submit a 'paper' outlining the workshop design and content in a similar manner and in the same timeframe as for the submission of conference papers.
