Keynote Address
 
Jim Patrick   JIM PATRICK
Chief Scientist & Senior Vice-President, Cochlear Limited

Jim Patrick is Chief Scientist and Senior Vice-President for Cochlear Limited, and holds the honorary positions of Associate Professor, Department of Otolaryngology, University of Melbourne; Deputy Director, The Cooperative Research Center for Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Innovation; and Special Research Fellow of the Bionic Ear Institute, Melbourne. He has been involved in cochlear implant research since 1975 when he joined Professor Clark’s research team at the University of Melbourne, with overall responsibility for the development of the University prototype cochlear implant. Jim moved to Sydney in 1981 as a foundation member of the Cochlear team. He has had a series of roles in Research and Development and general management, exploring new ways to improve patient outcomes though the development and use of new technology. His interests in speech science, engineering and physiology have matched the needs of this very multi-disciplinary field, giving rise to novel cochlear implant and speech processor designs, new coding strategies, and objective ways of programming to match individual needs. In addition to innovative new products, this has also led to publications and patents. As Chief Scientist he now well-placed to direct research projects in most disciplines, with responsibility for Cochlear’s global Collaborative Research Program.

Soccer Activity

A mini championship of country teams consisting of five players per team will be played on an indoor court. Involvement in this activity is optional and included in your registration fee.
