Industry Site Tour to Penrith Lakes from $30.00
The theme for CMIC 08 is People, Planet and Profit reflecting the three pillars supporting business sustainability.
The Penrith Lakes Scheme is the largest sand and gravel quarry in Australia and involves the sequential quarrying and rehabilitation of a 2,000 hectare site located on the floodplain of the Nepean River, and flanked by the Blue Mountains.
Existing quarries merged in 1980 to form the Penrith Lakes Development Corporation Ltd (PLDC) to co-ordinate the extraction for its three shareholders, Boral, Cemex and Hanson.
Quarry activities will cease in the next 5-10 years and planning for the remediation of the site is well underway. The completed Scheme will contain over 700 hectares of lakes, 900 hectares of parklands and 400 hectares of urban development.
Tour includes:
- Coach transfers to Penrith Lakes on Saturday 11 October, 2008
- Morning Tea
- Guided Site Tour
- Demonstration of a scale model of the scheme, which was developed by PLDC to assist with the mitigation of flood waters.
