Tutorials

Tutorial A – Part 1: Pair-Wise Testing Explained, Lee Copeland

Lee will share examples of the effectiveness of pair-wise testing and demonstrate this technique through the use of orthogonal arrays, James Bach's all-pairs algorithm, and Microsoft's PICT tool. Learn to apply this technique through a number of hands-on exercises.

Tutorial A – Part 2: Pragmatic Testing: What to Do When Your World Is Messy, Lee Copeland

Lee describes a pragmatic approach to testing when your world is messy, e.g. lack of organisational commitment to testing, poor system requirements, insufficient stakeholder involvement, ineffective testing processes, poor communication, separation of testers from developers, and lack of tester professionalism. Lee will present a set of effective responses you should consider when you find yourself in these messy situations, as well as how to determine the underlying causes of organisational messiness as a starting point for improvement. Join Lee for an examination of both pragmatic testing practices and effective improvement activities.

Tutorial B: Going Green to Make it Better: A Tool Kit for Defining and Delivering Quality, Isabel Evans

This practical "how to" day will cover defining project goals, quality levels, acceptance criteria and risks, setting up a spreadsheet quality plan, and using the quality plan to track progress to delivery. You'll receive templates and spreadsheets to take away and tailor to your own projects.

  • Setting missions and goals with a Weaver triangle
  • How to make effective, efficient on-one-page processes that deliver flexibility with discipline
  • Setting handoff points with ETVX
  • Setting acceptability levels to provide the correct software quality attributes
  • Setting test coverage against risk
